This was written for my niece who moved with her family to Canada when she was 8. We did not see her again until she was nearly seventeen and had become a beautiful young woman. This song celebrates the extraordinary gift that is life.

Lyrics

Hundred Photographs

Piano: key D with modulations

Verse 1
D A C Bm G C G Bb Am F
Your face is like an open sky, the waking day reflected in your eye
G D F Em C D A Bm G A
The diamond stone you know is hard and clear but bring it light and a thousand hues appear
Em G Bm Em G Bm A
Reach out and touch the endless blue, and to yourself promise to be true

Chorus
G A D A Bm G Bm A
Got a hundred photographs, I keep them in a file, not a single one does justice to your smile,
G A D A Bm G A D
What kind of artist could answer our prayer and paint a face so fair?

Verse 2
Your eyes are like an open book, the story grows and turns with every look
And as you turn light makes the colours rise, the opal’s fire is only seen sometimes
The World is opening to your gaze and I can read the hope on every page.

Chorus – first line as Chorus above
What kind of poet could answer our prayer and craft a tale so clear?

Verse 3
Your heart is like an open fire, I can feel the warmth as I walk by
And shadows leap before the dancing flame as rich red light glows in the ruby stone.
The World you’ll find is full of love and may you find the one you’re dreaming of.

Chorus – first line as Chorus above
What kind of sculptor could answer our prayer and shape a heart so pure?

Instrumental over bridge section ie 3rd line of verse

Chorus – first line as Chorus above
What kind of artist could answer our prayer and breathe a life so rare?
